    What is VMware Virtualization

A Revolutionary Virtual PC Solution For Your Business

    Main content starts here.

NEC's thin client system, Virtual PC Center, adopts virtualization technology infrastructure provided by VMware.

The virtualization technology is used to virtualize each PC onto a centralized server. Original management technology delivers both an efficient use of resources and fault-resistant characteristics. The Virtual PC Center offers a total solution, from PC use through to management and operation.

    VMware virtualization infrastructure

    VMware, Inc.

VMware is the global leader in virtual infrastructure technology, helping organizations large and small to increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their IT operations. VMware solutions are used by more than 20,000 IT organizations worldwide-including all of the Fortune 100-to solve a variety of complex business challenges.

    How VMware virtualization works

In essence, virtualization lets you transform hardware into software. Use software such as VMware ESX Server to transform or "virtualize" the hardware resources of an x86-based computer-including the CPU, RAM, hard disk and network controller-to create a fully functional virtual machine that can run its own operating system and applications just like a "real" computer.

Multiple virtual machines share hardware resources without interfering with each other so that you can safely run several operating systems and applications at the same time on a single computer.

    How VMware virtualization works

Benefits of adopting VMware virtualization technology

VMware virtualization technology reduces installation and operating costs, while improving service levels by delivering greater operational efficiency, flexibility and availability.

    • Centralizing computer resources on servers reduces hardware maintenance and space costs
    • Integrated server management reduces management costs
    • Flexible provisioning that adjusts to server load
    • Allows legacy systems to co-exist in new hardware environments
    • Accelerates the lifecycle for developing and introducing new applications
    • No downtime when transferring a running system to another virtual PC

VMware provides virtualized machine environments via VMware Infrastructure. VMware Infrastructure includes VMware ESX Server, the foundation for dynamic, self-optimizing IT infrastructure, and VMware VirtualCenter, which delivers centralized management, operational automation, resource optimization and high availability. VMware Infrastructure is ideally suited to users looking to reduce server management costs, make more efficient use of server resources and / or reduce systems downtime.

Functions of VMware virtualization technology for VPCC

    Integrated management of virtual PC

Provides individuals Windows XP environments and high-level intensity so users can use the VPCC in the same way as a regular PC. This allows system administrators to integrate management of all virtual PC and achieve greater operating efficiency.

    Optimal distribution of server resources

Resources can be flexibly allocated to each virtual PC on the server. When a user executes a high-load task, CPU and memory not being used in other PCs on the same server can be redirected automatically to this PC, thereby delivering more efficient use of server resources.

    Optimal distribution of server resources

    Addition of new users

Virtual PC can be added with ease. Even when each division uses a different configuration, PC can be added when required by simply preparing a template incorporating the OS and basic introduction software.

    Installation of applications and patches

OS patches, as well as application installations and updates, can be implemented in all virtual PC at the same time.

    Recovery from failure

In the unlikely event of virtual PC failure, recovery operations are undertaken autonomously, from detection through to system restoration. This greatly reduces stoppage time affecting important operations.

    Recovery from failure

Automatic access to virtual PC from user terminals (client management option function)

Users can automatically connect to an appropriate virtual PC from any thin client terminal by simply inputting a user name, password and domain name. Users can also reboot (#) their virtual PC when it stalls without the need to request assistance from a system administrator.

(#) Rebooting a stalled virtual PC from a thin client terminal requires the construction of a separate dedicated virtual PC for rebooting operations (rebooting virtual PC).
